About the Music Teacher

Mrs. Courtney

I began teaching music for MCCSC in 1997, and traveled between many elementary schools before becoming full-time in one building when Summit opened. I grew up in Bloomington, and went to Binford, Batchelor, South High School, and IU. I took advantage of many of the wonderful musical opportunities Bloomington has to offer, including being a part of the IU Children’s Choir in elementary school, and Sounds of South in high school. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in music education from the IU Jacobs School of Music, a Master’s degree in early childhood education from the IU School of Education, and Kodaly music certification from IU.
In addition to teaching elementary music, I spent many years teaching early childhood music programs through IU, the YMCA and Bloomington Area Birth Services. I am married to another music educator, Brian Courtney, who after many years of teaching in various capacities in for MCCSC, now operates his own music studio. We have two young children and two dogs. I love to be with my family, andI love to be in nature, with a particular fondness for trees and gardening.
