In addition to our weekly music classes, we are fortunate to have collaborations with the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music for music field trips for 2nd-6th grades. All MCCSC students have the opportunity to experience a live, music performance in a world-class theater (the Musical Arts Center, or MAC) with some of the best musicians from around the world. These field trips take place during a school day morning; a note will be sent home to let you know when your child will be attending. (Due to space issues, there is not room for parent chaperones for these field trips.) The typical schedule is:
2nd grade: Symphonic Band
3rd grade: Ballet
4th grade: Opera
5th grade: Concert Orchestra
6th Grade: Jazz
We also often have the opportunity to have musicians or music groups from the community come in and work with us. Examples include, Jazz in the Schools, IU Harp Presentation, and our yearly presentation from the Lotus Education and Arts Foundation which brings multicultural music into our schools every Spring. We are lucky to live in a town full of wonderful experiences and opportunities in the arts!
