Strings, Lessons, & More!

5th and 6th grade students are invited to participate in the before-school Strings program, offered by MCCSC. Students will have a presentation about this program and the instruments offered (violin, viola, cello, bass) at the beginning of the school year, and a paper will go home explaining the details.  The program typically meets 2 mornings a week before school (at Summit!), and students are offered instruction free of charge. Information about instrument rental and purchasing an instruction book is explained on the paper that goes home. This program is a fantastic opportunity for students who are interested in learning an orchestral string instrument.
In middle school, students have the opportunity to sign up for band, orchestra, or choir as a part of their daily schedules. If your elementary student is interested in learning an instrument prior to that time, and you need information about where to take lessons, please contact me at school. I can direct you to places or people who give lessons. There are a lot of options in Bloomington!
Other wonderful music experiences outside of school include:
·         IU Children’s Choir (a fantastic opportunity for students who love to sing)
·         Stages Bloomington (a youth musical theater experience)
·         Star Band (a beginning band experience for older elementary students)
.         Bloomington B.E.A.T. (community performance ensemble for singing, dancing, and show choir)

And more!! Check out links to these and other fabulous music experiences in the Links section!
