General Info

Summit students in grades K-3 come to music for a total of 60 minutes per week (either split into two 30-minute sessions, or one 60-minute session) , and students in grades 4-6 come to music for 70 minutes a week (usually split into two 35-minute sessions). We are fortunate to have many great resources in the music room, including a wide variety of instruments and technologies that help students get a well-rounded general music education. In music class, we sing, dance, listen, move, create, and read and write music. We support and enhance classroom learning, as well as lay a solid foundation for future music experiences such as band, orchestra and choir (which are offered in middle school and high school).

The MCCSC elementary music teachers meet together several times a month on Wednesday mornings to collaborate and share ideas and instructional activities based on our common essential learnings, state music standards, and assessment tools. We look forward to sharing more of our work with you in future years. All of the elementary students across MCCSC will benefit from the work of our current collaborations. It’s an exciting time for all of us!

Bloomington is a wonderful place for music experiences of all varieties and styles. We hope you find ways to make music a part of your everyday lives, and that you find time to experience some of the wonderful musical performances that take place on a daily basis in our town.
